Preparation for Recertifying Your Advanced CBP License

As an Advanced CBP holder, recertification is crucial to maintain your professional credentials in the pool industry. The Pool & Hot Tub Alliance (PHTA) offers various options for recertifying your license.

Understanding the Exam Process

To begin with, it's essential to understand that you can take the Advanced CBP Exam at a PHTA national, regional, or chapter-sponsored testing event, remotely proctored on your computer, or at a Prometric computer testing center near you. As a PHTA member, the exam fee is $49, while non-members will need to pay $99.

Sample Practice Exam and Study Materials

Before taking the actual exam, it's recommended that you familiarize yourself with the format and content of the test by using the Advanced CBP Practice Exam. This sample exam includes questions covering each topic area, along with answers and helpful commentary from Terry Brannon, P.E., GENESIS Engineering Faculty Advisor.

Retest Option

If you didn't pass the exam on your first attempt, don't worry! You can reschedule a retest within a year of your testing date to avoid having to take the course again. To do so, simply fill out the Exam Retest Form and submit it along with the required $250 fee.

Exam Requirements

To pass the Advanced CBP Exam, you'll need to score 75% or better (answering at least 75 questions correctly). The exam is three hours long, open-book, and consists of 100 multiple-choice questions.

Prerequisites for Certification

To become a Certified Advanced Pool Builder Professional, you must first take the GENESIS E211: Fluid Hydraulics for Pools & Spas course. This course is designed to provide you with proficiency in proper pool construction and an understanding of pool hydraulics.

Certification Pathway

The Advanced CBP certification is the second level of certification in the new PHTA Certified Pool Builder and Design Professional Pathway, a comprehensive education and certification career pathway designed to help you build on your foundation of knowledge and become a Certified Master Pool Builder and Design Professional.
